euROBIN Executive Summary

euROBIN is an European initiative with a transformative approach to revolutionize the realm of robotics by addressing the critical need for adaptable and versatile robots in diverse environments. Our project recognizes that as robots venture into complex and unstructured settings, the ability to swiftly acquire new skills is paramount.

To achieve this, euROBIN introduces a threefold strategy:

- Expert-Led Research: Collaborating with leading experts from Europe's robotics and AI research community, euROBIN focuses on enhancing transferability in four key scientific domains:

  • Boosting physical interaction capabilities for increased safety, reliability, and energy efficiency.
  • Leveraging machine learning to equip robots with the capacity to acquire new behaviors, adapt to novel situations, and gain knowledge about their environment.
  • Empowering robots to represent, exchange, query, and reason about abstract knowledge.
  • Prioritizing a human-centric design paradigm, ensuring AI-enabled robots meet human needs, are accessible, usable, and trustworthy.

- Demonstration in Key Application Areas: To showcase the relevance of our scientific endeavors, euROBIN applies its outcomes in three pivotal domains:

  • Robotic manufacturing for a circular economy.
  • Personal robots aimed at enhancing quality of life.
  • Outdoor robots contributing to the sustainability of communities.

- Fostering Collaboration and Inclusion: Through collaborative competitions, euROBIN measures advancements and establishes a sustainable Network of Excellence. The project facilitates the exchange of software, data, and knowledge via the EuroCore repository, positioned as a central platform for robotics in Europe.

euROBIN envisions a European ecosystem where robots collaborate, share data, and pool their diverse knowledge to learn and adapt collectively. Our goal is to empower robots to tackle an endless array of tasks within human environments, ultimately driving innovation, industry, and societal progress across Europe.
