ERF24: Day 1 Higlights

March 13 was the first day of the European Robotics Forum 2024 (Rimini, Italy).
And Eurobin had an exciting day :)

To begin with, we set up an amazing booth that many people came to see for sharing their curiosity and knowledge about robotics. To offer the best of us, we had prepared three activities:

🤖 From 9:30 to 11:30 demos of #FrankaArm by Technical University of Munich
🤖 From 11:40 to 15:50 demos of #MetaQuest 3 by University of Bremen
🤖 And a special tour guided by our technical expert Peter So, MBA from 13:00 to 14:30 across our booth to showcase all euROBIN project innovations around #robotics and #AI

Then we received the representatives of the European Commission, with whom we talked and explained everything they wanted to know. They also had the opportunity to bond with some robotic fellow.

With us we had #David from German Aerospace Center (DLR)#Tiago from PAL Robotics#Wheeled humanoid robot is #AlterEgo from Unipi technology/Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, VR systems from University of Bremen or #aerialrobots from PRISMA Lab and others! 🤖 And it was fantastic to see them in action!

Of course, there was time for some team photos...

And at the end of the day, after an intense workday, we went to dinner and continue thinking about more great ideas. Creativity never stops!

We hope to see you today at our booth to share more experiences with you. Look for the Eurobin cube ;)

euROBIN Coopetition - Nancy, France 2024

euROBIN’s cooperative competitions (Coopetitions) are based on a scoring system that gives credit to a team for its own achievements in executing tasks and for the successful usage by other teams of modules developed by the team. Team scores are also higher when they use other team’s modules.

  • euROBIN 1st Coopetition: Nancy, France:
  • Dates: 25-28 November 2024 (after Humanoids 2024)
  • Venue: Centre des Congrès Prouvé (Nancy Congress Center)
  • Apply here:
  • Qualification materials (send by June 15 (possibly extended), 2024 to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • Team description paper (The paper should highlight the team’s key achievements and results, current research lines, applicability to real-world scenarios, and how these relate to the league’s topics. Additionally, teams must specify which algorithms they intend to share via the euROBIN EuroCore platform and provide descriptions of the software modules they require. The paper should include the league name (Industrial Robots, Service Robots, Outdoor Robots), the team’s name, the team members’ names, contact information, website details, a description of the robot’s hardware, and relevant photos.) – specify format
  • Video: showcasing one or multiple robots executing a task related to the league where the team intends to participate. For instance, in a manipulation task for the Industrial Robots League, a human-robot interaction task for the Service Robots League, or a navigation with obstacle avoidance task for the Outdoor Robots League. The task goal must be clear and the robot execution must clearly achieve it. The video can be sped up and must have a maximum duration of 10 minutes. The team must state if the execution is fully autonomous or has some degree of tele-operation.
  • Fulfil this form: https://forms.gle/Sj3NV96b3nsNiwnj7
  • Latest version of rulebook (04/06/2024)
  • Developed modules must be available in euROBIN’s EuroCore platform.

euROBIN at ERF2024

We are very glad to announce that euROBIN will be present at #ERF2024 with an outstanding booth where you will be able to meet our #Robots, our latest #innovation and the good people behind it.

To do so, we have carefully prepared joint and individual robotics demos of all the robots we will have there, like these nice guys:

-ANYmal: ANYmal is a quadrupedal robot designed for autonomous operation in challenging environments. Driven by special precisely torque-controllable actuators, the robot platform is capable of dynamic running and climbing in difficult terrain. Thanks to incorporated LIDAR and depth cameras, ANYmal can perceive its environment, accurately localize itself, autonomously plan its navigation path and carefully select footholds while walking¹.

-David: The main focus in the development of David is to get as close to human capabilities as possible − especially in terms of dynamics, dexterity and robustness. The robot will operate in an environment designed for humans, such as a kitchen. It will use everyday objects such as cups, plates, and cutlery. Consequently, David has a size comparable to humans, and it also has a similar range of motion. Its humanoid shape should enable intuitive operation and programming. All joints of the fingers can be controlled individually and thus give the system an extraordinarily high dexterity.

-TIAgo: is the mobile manipulator robot that combines perception, navigation, manipulation and interaction skills between humans and robots that allow to go beyond what is defined. The mobile manipulator adapts both to research fields and to environments where it is necessary to carry out healthcare tasks, through areas of Health or manufacturing industry².

-KIT: KIT ARMAR-6 is a collaborative humanoid assistant robot for industrial environments. It can interact with humans and provide help when needed in a proactive way. The robot is the 6th generation and youngest member of the ARMAR family of humanoid robots developed at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Thanks to its humanoid shape, it can use tools designed for humans, such as power drills and hammers. With its artificial intelligence capabilities, it can autonomously perform maintenance tasks in industrial facilities, recognize the need of help of its collaboration partner, and offer assistance. The robot has been designed to be versatile in its capabilities to allow acting in situations that are not foreseen at programming time.

Also, we have prepared daily tours with experts to help you discovering euROBIN robotics innovations. Some of the experts we will have around are top robotics scientist as:
  • euROBIN project coordinators from DLR, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt: Alin Albu-Schaeffer and Rebecca Schedl-Warpup
  • TUM, Technical University Munich, Dr. Abdalla Swikir
  • Uni Bremen: Prof. Michael Beetz
  • IIT: Nikolaos Tsagarakis
  • C.R.E.A.T.E.: Vincenzo Lipiello
Also, don't forget the workshop "Transferability in Robotics" organized by Aude G. Billard and Danica Kragic, that will take place during the 🤖 European Robotics Forum (#ERF) in Rimini, on 📅 Friday 15 March, 11:40 - 13:00, Room Tempio 1.

Everything under the direction of the magnificient Alessandro Settimi from Uni Pisa, who has been in charge of putting together an incredible amount of work, so the european robotics ecosystem, that we are part of as a #NetworkOfExcellence, can enjoy of euROBIN latest innovations at ERF2024.

If you want to meet euROBIN staff, learn more about robots and humans, know more about our work, drop by the coolest booth in ERF2024 :)

See you there in a couple of weeks!
