Join us at imec lab's Cloth Folding (online) workshop linked with a live competition at ICRA2024! 🧺 This year's Cloth Track focuses on grasp point localization on hanging cloth items—a crucial step to ensure the cloth unfolding process can be completed.
Â
Event Overview:
Teams are invited to participate in the 9th RGMC's Cloth Track, an exciting workshop and live competition.T he central theme revolves around developing and showcasing your robotic system's prowess in grasping points on hanging cloth items. The competition is not just about innovation; it's about demonstrating your capabilities in real-time. The challenge involves regrasping garments in the air, and this year, the focus is on identifying optimal grasp points for items such as towels, shirts, and shorts.

The Challenge:
Regrasping garments mid-air is a widely adopted strategy for cloth unfolding. The traditional method involves grasping the lowest point, but the competition pushes the boundaries. Participants must identify and provide grasp points, along with approach directions, for items like shirts and shorts. The objective is to localize these grasp points in both color and depth images of garments suspended in the air by a gripper. The competition aims to improve the efficiency of the cloth unfolding process, requiring participants to predict grasp locations and approach directions accurately.
Â
Practicalities:
Participants need not worry about the initial lifting of the cloth, grasp execution, camera calibration, and other technicalities. imec lab provides an open-source codebase, airo-mono, taking care of these aspects. During the competition, participants receive an image and respod with the grasp location in a specified JSON format. An image dataset of representative cloth items is provided for preparation, including towels, shirts, and shorts. Participants are encouraged to collect additional data for evaluation.
